We find ourselves in the third month of the Islamic calendar, Rabi al-Awwal. This is the blessed month that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was born. All over the world, celebrations will take place expressing gratitude to God for sending Muhammad the Prophet, peace be upon him. These celebrations are known as Mawlid al-Nabi, the Birth of the Prophet. Historically, there has been a difference of opinion among Islamic scholars regarding the permissibility of celebrating the Mawlid. Some scholars felt the practice was a blameworthy innovation; others believed the practice has roots in the sayings of Muhammad, peace be upon him. Regardless of our stance on Mawlid, let's take a moment to reflect on the great gift we were given by God. The gift of mercy, guidance, and beauty in Muhammad's character, peace be upon him. I invite you to watch our video, Celebrating the Life of Muhammad, and experience a 'Virtual Mawlid.'
