Director of Residence Life at Elon, MarQuita Barker, shares on the theme "The Meaning of the Journey: Personal Stories of Change".


MarQuita D. Barker is the Director of Residence Life at Elon University where she provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the department. She has been a member of the Elon community since 2008, working in several roles in residence life and diversity education. She is responsible for the overall leadership and management of over 100 student employees and over 20 full-time and part-time professional and graduate staff. In her role, she works with faculty and other university partners to advance Elon’s living and learning goals to ensure student learning in and out of the classroom. She is passionate about supporting students and colleagues to operate at their highest level. Prior to Elon, she worked at Old Dominion University in Residence Life and at Hampton University with access and success initiatives. She earned her master's degree in Higher Education Administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia and her MBA from Elon University. She is currently a doctoral student at Vanderbilt University where her research focuses on the impact of residential colleges.
